Rules

  • We abide by the same rules and regulations as the NeWA...

    Introduction

Before you even begin reading this, allow us to remind you that this is a hobby. A game. We are all here to have fun- staff included. The OOC area is available to you to have conversations with fellow handlers, to create friendships and what have you. It is not there for complaining about how your character is being handled. We ask that if you have an “angry” issue (complaint, offense, something of that nature) you bring it up with a staff member, privately, either through an instant messaging program, a private message through the boards, or an email.

We also promise that, out of character, the staff will act as a mirror. If you treat us with respect, we will treat you with the same. If you decide to treat us in a condescending manner, that we will be reflected as well. We are not expecting you to refer to us as “Sir,” "My Lord," or anything of that nature, we are simply asking that you treat us how you'd like to be treated.

Most of the staff is available for discussions on at least one instant messaging program. You can find the contacts on the staff page. Each staff member also has email available, also available on the staff page. There is also a private message (PM) option on the forums, which can also be used to contact the staff. If you cannot reach someone on an instant messenger, send an email or a PM and they will reply as soon as possible. This applies to any situation, no matter how minor- minor things usually end up exploding.

Finally, remember that we reserve the right to finish storylines with your character, even if you quit. In other words, if you quit on bad terms, you might leave in a humiliating manner. If you leave on good terms, and are a champion, then you can expect to lose your title, but in a more classy manner. If you are not a champion, not involved in any high profile angles, and leave, you will be silently phased out.

Again, these situations can always be discussed, either by email, PM, or instant messenger.

These rules are broken down into several sections. For Alliance-wide events, the rules listed here will take precedence over the rules of any individual federation.

Now, on to the actual rules.

The rules were adapted on Sunday, April 1, 2007. The most recent update was Friday, June 1, 2007.

    Book One: Players

    Section One: Roleplaying

Roleplays are the most important part of this game. Whether they are simply your character standing in front of a black backdrop, berating his opponent or a slice of your characters life, roleplaying well is the key to victory. Without roleplays, your character will not advance very far. Regular cards are held by the member federations. The rules that apply to regular cards are handled by the individual federations and may vary from region to region. However, when all the regions come together to make one night truly special, the rules of the NeWA will take precedence. This means that saying "But in XXX we can do that!" will not be an excuse for breaking the rules.

    1.1.1 Roleplaying Boards

The Roleplay Boards are open seven days a week. In addition to the board for your actual roleplays, you will find boards for Out of Character (OOC) discussions. We ask that you insure your post goes on the correct board. OOC posts on the Roleplay Board are expressly forbidden. This does not mean that the entire post must be OOC. There are to be no OOC comments of any sort on the Roleplay Board. Violations will be dealt with on a case to case basis.

Pay-per-views will have their own section of the forum. Roleplays must be placed in this section to be counted towards your match on the pay-per-view.

    1.1.2 Roleplaying Requirements

This is supposed to be a fun hobby. A game, not a job. Therefore, we do not expect you to roleplay every single day. For any Alliance-wide event or title defense, the roleplaying period will be two weeks, with a minimum of one roleplay and a maximum of four roleplays.

You are allowed to post one roleplay per day. This is to prevent "bombing" an opponent with four roleplays on the final day. The definition of a "day" is fluid... if you post at two in the morning and again at ten at night, we will usually assume the first one was meant for the day before. This is to keep a level playing field, not to make things difficult.

If you are booked on an Alliance event and fail to post at least a single roleplay, you may not be booked on the next Alliance event.

Again, this is supposed to be a game. If something important comes up, and you inform us, we can work attempt to work around it.

    1.1.3 Length

We support the choice of the players to link to roleplays. In other words, you may write your roleplay as a webpage, and then post that on the roleplay board. You may use images, sounds, and anything else you wish to- but please remember content is all you are graded on. If you submit a webpage, please include a non-HTML version as well. For example, place a link to the page that contains your roleplay at the top, and then post the non-HTML version directly below.

An important reminder: length does not equal quality. Sometimes it is better to write five hundred words than two thousand, especially if you have little to say.

    1.1.4 Content

We are uncensored, and you are welcome to take advantage of this. If you are entertained by writing descriptions of your character in sexual activities, then feel free to do so. If you enjoy spouting profanity off for no reason, then feel free to. However, remember that spouting profanity or showing off in bed will not win you matches. You cannot win writing porn, in other words. We value intelligent thought and innovative writing, and, if you provide that, you will win.

Of course, no racial, sexual orientation, or religious slurs will be tolerated. This is the only exception to the “uncensored” nature of the Alliance.

You may not use other athletes in your roleplays unless we have received their consent via email, instant messenger, or telephone. You may not use NeWA personnel (announcers, etcetera) unless we have approved it prior to its posting, or unless otherwise specified. Violations will be dealt with on a case to case basis. The use of "actors" portraying other athletes, or "dream sequences" where other characters appear, is a grey area. Use discretion, and be aware that this may be found to be a violation in some instances.

Please be realistic in your roleplays. In other words, do not run around killing people. If you do, you will find your character being arrested on the next show. The same goes for rape, robbery, grand theft auto, and whatever else you can think of. Drug use is acceptable, as long as it is insinuated, not shown.

    1.1.5 Determining Winners

On an Alliance level, wins are mainly based on roleplays. If you out-roleplay your opponent, you will win, ninety-five percent of the time. However, sometimes an angle calls for one player to win, regardless of his roleplaying. These decisions are very difficult for us to make, and are always remembered. We will never take from your character without giving back.

We work very hard to keep things even, and make sure people are rewarded for their work. For example, an angle might cause you to lose your match, but you might do a run-in in a larger match, moving your character up. There are endless possibilities. However, you might have to wait for the payoff.

    1.1.6 Original Content

Plagiarism will be dealt with severely. Post your own work, or do not post at all.

    Section Two: Cards

The events that everyone wishes to be a part of. All titles will be defended, all the big angles and storylines will be on display, and the eyes of the world will be on the athletes featured. This is where you make your name, or establish yourself as a serious star. Each match is fully written, and there are always surprises.

    1.2.1 Pay Per Views

Each NeWA pay-per-view occurs on the final Sunday of the month. There is a two week roleplay period for pay-per-views. Strategy forms are mandatory for matches on the pay-per-view. As it currently stands, the NeWA runs six pay-per-views a year. This schedule is effective as of January 1, 2007.

    1.2.2 Battlecade

Battlecade is one of the tent-poles of the NeWA's calendar. The winner of the Lou Thesz Memorial Tournament receives a World Heavyweight Championship match at this show.

    1.2.3 WrestleClassic

Every May, WrestleClassic bursts onto the scene. All titles are on the line, and every match is sure to be important.

1.2.4 The Super J Cup Tournament

In addition to the regular title matches, this show features the Super J Cup Tournament. Brought to America from Japan by Acadian Wrestling, this show will feature an open-enrollment tournament for cruiserweights.

1.2.6 The Lou Thesz Memorial Tournament

In November, the biggest names in the NeWA come together for a one night tournament. The winner goes on to Battlecade to receive a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. Most of the winners of this tournament have gone on to win the World Championship. This is an event where stars are regularly born.

    Section Three: Strategy Forms

    1.3.1 Definition

In order to allow you to be more involved in your characters matches, we accept strategy forms. You can find the form on the main page. For pay-per-views OR NeWA title matches, the failure to submit a strategy form will result in your character losing the match. The same is true of an improperly formatted strategy form. The format is what is used on the shows; the idea is for them to be plugged directly into the show. If you are unsure as to what format, consult with a Board of Directors member.

    1.3.2 Deadline

Strategy forms are due on the same day the roleplaying window closes. If you have a problem with the deadline, feel free to contact a staff member and we will see what we can work out.

    1.3.3 Sections

The strategy form is separated into twelve sections. Each section has a unique purpose. You do not have to complete all twelve sections if you do not wish to.

Section one is your basic information. This is an important section, since it lets the writer of your match know a little more about your character. This section is mandatory.

Section two describes the mindset of your character. This is where you describe what your character is thinking and how they feel about their match. This section is not mandatory.

Section three is your match strategy. Is your character planning on wearing down a certain body part? Are they planning on trying to wear down a bigger opponent, or ground a smaller man? This is where you let us know about it. This section is not mandatory.

Section four is for moves to be used in your match. This is the most important section to the writer. If you do not fill this in, we will choose moves for you to do. There are no promises on any of your moves being used, although we will make every effort to include them. This section is not mandatory.

Section five is your entrance. If you do not fill in this section, your character will simply be waiting in the ring for the match to begin. It does not matter if it is a World Championship match or the main event of a pay-per-view, failure to submit a strategy form will result in you not having an entrance. . If you want fireworks, music, or a Jumbotron video, this is where to include it. Your entrance may include fan interaction, if you wish. This is your way of customizing our show, so take advantage of it. This section is not mandatory, but is strongly encouraged.

Section six is where you discuss any ongoing angles. This is your chance to make the writer aware of what is going on with your character. This section is not mandatory.

Section seven is for dealing with interference. This is your chance to let the writers know how you will react to outside interference. This section is not mandatory.

Section eight is for after match activities. If your character loses, will he throw a fit? If he wins will he celebrate? This is where you tell us about it. This section is not mandatory.

Section ten is run-ins/attacks. If you'd like to slice someone open with a kendo stick, then let us know. Write it out how you would like it to appear on the show, with action enclosed in brackets and any talking done with your characters name followed by a dash. Refer to a show to see the proper format. You may not have the victim speak. You may request interference on as many opponents as you like, but your odds of success go down on each choice. This section is not mandatory.

Section eleven is where you include spots you would like to see on the show. This can be whatever you like. This must be formatted in such a manner that it can be taken and pasted directly in the show. This section is not mandatory, but is strongly encouraged.

Section twelve is for out of character statements. This is your chance to tell the writer anything you think they should know. This section is not mandatory.

    1.3.4 Use of Strategy Forms

There are no promises anything you write in a strategy form will be used. However, we will make every effort to insure most of what is submitted will be used. If something is not used, there will be a good reason.

    Section Four: Championships

    1.4.1 Belts

There is a single championship, the NeWA World Heavyweight Championship. A federation may only book an NeWA title match with the permission of the Board of Directors, even if they are the home federation of the reigning champion.

    1.4.2 Title Defenses

Each title will be defended most months. Whether it is at an NeWA pay per view or in a regional defense, the belts will be defended regularly. Sometimes, there may be a month where a title is not defended. This will never happen two months in a row.

    1.4.3 Development League Championship

This title represents the best of the junior circuit. The holder of this title is someone who is ready to move up to the next level, and possibly bring his entire federation with him. This title is only available to members of the Development League. The Development League Championship will be defended at every NeWA pay-per-view.

    1.4.7 World Heavyweight Championship

Since 1877, this belt has been the most prestigious in the world. This title has been held by some of the true legends of the industry. Whoever holds this belt is considered the best wrestler in the world. It is a title for the elite.

    Section Five: Athletes

The athletes are what drives any ewrestling organization. Without the athletes, the shows would be rather boring. These guidelines are not designed to limit your creativity, but rather to help you create the best character that you can. The following are more suggestions than hard and fast rules.

    1.5.1 Creation Guidelines

When creating a character, it is important to be original. In this, we do not mean making a clone of Kane and calling him “Doctor Evil.” Original means finding something that is interesting and intriguing. Stealing the catchphrases, gimmicks, and moves of real-world wrestlers is not the way to find something original.

Besides being original, please be realistic. Don't create a four hundred pound high-flyer- it won't work. On the same hand, don't create a hundred pound cruiserweight and put his finisher as a choke slam. It won't work.

    1.5.2 Size

Size does not matter in determining winners and losers. Roleplaying and angles are all that matter. Size only plays a factor in what moves your athlete can do and in what others can do to them. Obviously, if you are five hundred pounds the odds of being power bombed are decreased. However, this does not mean you won't lose.

    1.5.3 Character Development

In order for your character to advance, they must be well developed. Character development is done through roleplays. Instead of simply insulting your opponent, you must continue to flesh out your character. This is done by showing the characters relationships with others- be they one time appearances or recurring characters. This can also be done by showing some weaknesses in the character. It helps to remember that a character without flaws is boring, and therefore will never rise to the top. Keeping people interested and entertained is critical. However, as this is primarily a wrestling game, it is important to make at least passing mentions to your match or opponent. This is not to say that you have to, but it is strongly suggested.

    Closing

These rules are not in place to make your life miserable. They are in place only to help all of us have a better time. If you took the time to read the rules, agree with them, and think you can follow them, then please feel free to join. If you don't think they are fair, feel free to offer us suggestions. Remember, this is a game, and we're all here to have fun.

Thanks for reading, The NeWA/GLWA Board of Directors
